In the 1980s, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was founded as a joint financial venture between the Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors. Production at Mitsubishi Motors North America ceased in 2015 when the company was acquired by Mitsubishi Motor Sales Corporation.
